Imran Khan is a Pakistani politician, former cricketer, and the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan. Cricket Career:
Imran Khan played international cricket for Pakistan from 1971 to 1992. He was an all-rounder, known for his exceptional skills as a fast bowler and a middle-order batsman. Khan played in 88 Test matches, scoring 3,807 runs and taking 362 wickets. He led the Pakistan cricket team to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup, where he played a crucial role both as a captain and a player. After the World Cup, Imran Khan retired from cricket.
Political Career:
Following his retirement from cricket, Imran Khan ventured into politics and founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in 1996. Khan ran for the office of Prime Minister in the 2002, 2013, and 2018 general elections but was unsuccessful.
In the 2018 general elections, Imran Khan's PTI emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly. As a result, Khan was elected as the Prime Minister of Pakistan on August 18, 2018. During his tenure, he focused on combating corruption, improving the economy, and implementing social welfare programs such as the Ehsaas program, which aims to alleviate poverty.
Imran Khan's premiership has been marked by various domestic and international challenges, including managing the country's economic crisis, addressing regional security concerns, and improving relations with neighboring countries. His government has also prioritized environmental issues, with Khan leading efforts to plant billions of trees under the "Billion Tree Tsunami" project.
Personal Life and Philanthropy:
Imran Khan has been married three times. His first marriage was to Jemima Goldsmith, a British socialite, and the couple has two sons. His second marriage was to Reham Khan, a Pakistani journalist, but they divorced after a short period. In 2018, he married Bushra Maneka, a faith healer.
Apart from his political career, Imran Khan has also been involved in philanthropic activities. He founded the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre in Lahore, named after his mother, to provide state-of-the-art cancer treatment to the underprivileged. Khan also established Namal University, a private university in Mianwali, Pakistan, aimed at providing quality education to students from rural areas.
